Finland’s Ambassador to Greece and Albania, Juha Pyykko, noted the good relations between the two countries in a message to the Athens-Fyrom news Agency (ANA) on Monday, on the occasion of the recent 100th anniversary of the recognition of Finnish independence by Greece in 1918.
«Greece was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Finland in early January 1918 after the Declaration of Independence had been adopted on 6 December 1917. Diplomatic relations between Finland and Greece were established in the course of the following few years,» the ambassador said.
«The fact that the official relations between the two countries date back to the early days of the independence of the Republic of Finland has provided a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations. The friendly support that the Greek authorities provided to the celebration of 100 years of the independence of the Republic of Finland in 2017 further strengthened the mutual interest in developing these relations further across all walks of life,» he added.
