Greece seems to be on track to exit successfully from its bailout program in August 2018, the European Commission’s representative Declan Costello, recently told Dutch lawmakers in The Hague, according to a media report in Greek newspaper “Ta Nea”.
Costello cited the forecasts for economic growth (2.5 percent for 2018), the improvement in the Greek bond spreads and the restoration of fiscal adjustment thanks to high primary surpluses.
However he added that “real challenges remain” on whether Greece will manage to ensure a sustainable growth in the long run, saying that there are “serious problems”. He said the real challenge is not whether the country will exit its program but creating a strong framework after the end of the program that will ensure the continuous implementation of the reforms.
